Let’s talk about wrists. Even before we’ve stepped foot into our boxes and gyms, our wrists have probably taken a beating. Us desk jockeys have potential wrist strain with keyboard and mouse usage. People that use their hands for a living, such as anyone that has to rotate something, subject their wrists to a good amount of sheer stress. We must take care of our wrists! Thankfully, there are wrist wraps out there. And, thankfully, there are cool shops to get custom CrossFit wrist wraps such as TotallyHanzMade!
Wrist wraps provide support to the wrist joint during lifts in pressing movements and overhead lifts. During these movements, the wrist can be pulled into excessive extension under load and result in compromised mechanics, possible injury, and failed lifts. Nobody wants that.
Support is provided by wrist wraps by… wrapping your wrists! Layers of fabric help restrict the range of motion of the wrist so as to prevent the excessive extension. The thicker the wrapping and the tighter it’s wrapped, the more support your wrists will experience. When you use your wrist wraps, make sure you wrap them up at your wrist joint! Wrapping them too low will result in a wrap that provides no support.
Sure, you can purchase wrist wraps from Rogue or other places that offer good, generic wraps. But, why would you want generic when you can have…
Boom!! Chris and ifailedfran. Now those are some custom wrist wraps!
My wraps came from Hannah at TotallyHanzMade. Hannah is a CrossFitter who has turned her passion into her own Etsy shop business. She offers custom CrossFit wrist wraps as well as headbands. The best part is that now Hannah offers custom embroidery on wrist wraps!
So of course, I selected Star Wars wraps. Yes, I’m a super dork but man I love me some Star Wars! I called upon the Force when I wrote about the worst workout I’ve ever done. Now, I can look down during any wod and remember to use that Force. Yup, I’m a nerd.
I had been on my first pair of CrossFit wrist wraps for many months and I could tell they were wearing out. I was very glad when Hannah reached out to me and offered a pair of wraps in exchange for my review. Oh, and there’s a giveaway (going for one per month this year here at ifailedfran, you’re welcome!). Oh, and there’s a discount code you can use!
**Alert Number 1 – Custom wrist wraps make a GREAT Valentine’s Day gift for your CrossFitting significant other. Order now.**
I put my new custom wraps to the test with a wod of push presses and box jumps. I’m not sure if my previous wraps were just worn out, or that these new ones were so endowed with the Force, but I definitely felt more wrist support with my new ones. The length is a little longer than my old ones, so an extra winding or two helps to reinforce the strength. Also, the cord is thicker and more substantial and helps keep everything in place.
**Alert Number 2 – Seriously, who wouldn’t love a pair of custom wrist wraps with their name or initials embroidered on them? Order now.**

Wrist wraps, a perfect blend of functional accessory and expression of style. A big thanks to Hannah for reaching out to me and sponsoring this giveaway!
And of course, no matter how awesome your new wrist wraps are, don’t use them exclusively as a crutch. Do your warm-up sets without them. Try and do a few wods that don’t require super heavy weight without them. Wrist wraps are like any other piece of equipment or accessory; you don’t want to become solely dependent on them.
This giveaway simply asks you to follow some social media accounts (you’re already following me, right!?) and to make a blog comment. Easy. By the way, congrats to Jill for winning the Fitness Sanctum giveaway!
Go visit TotallyHanzMade and use code “ifailedfran” at checkout to save $2. Hurry though, this deal expires 2/15.
Thanks for reading and take care of those wrists! (and your Valentine) Keith, let me know what kind you want, Valentine.
<One note, some fabrics are excluded in the giveaway. If the winner selects an excluded fabric, Hannah will let you know.>
Cool wraps! A pair of wrist wraps are definitely an essential piece of CF kit.
My mum actually made David a pair of lighter wrist wraps like these! Always good to have someone who can sew in the family! personally I feel like I still need a stronger wrap made of more hard wearing material but I think for gymnastic moves or lighter weights these are awesome!

Such fun fabrics!!! There are also really neat headbands in her Etsy shop too! Thanks for sharing!
If I were to pick anything from Hannah’s shop, I’d for the black and gold Aztec headband, but as far as wrist wraps, I’d get the camo ones for my fiancé.
There are too many to choose from! That being said..the yellow and gray have my name written alll over them!
I’d like the Houndstooth wraps. Thanks for the opportunity to win!!
I’ve got 3 pairs of fabric wraps, i prefer them to the elastic ones by a wide margin. Its just a shame i’m in China, or i’d have bought a load of them with the different patterns, mine are only plain black 🙁

I was seriously just thinking about wrist wraps this morning during my workout! I was doing tricep pushups into T-side planks with dumbbells and I kept feeling worried that I was accidentally going to roll my wrists or something. Very unlikely but man, would it be good to have this security just in case! I would love the Peace design 🙂

I like the minion ones since everyone who walks by yells “DAVE!” or “Earth to Dave!” since part 2 came out…but I also like the wonder woman ones for a friend. Oh & I vote for a shark themed set to be created!
JFW likes two things: Talking in 3rd person and free wrist wraps…
Cool stuff.
I just found your blog and am really enjoying it! Thanks for this giveaway too- I soo need wristwraps for all the gymnastics moves I’ve been practicing lately. I love the hot pink cheetah one- and I’d def get the Walking Dead one for my husband 🙂
