Hello! I’ve decided I’m tired of being the
handsome anonymous face on the right side of your screen or bottom of your mobile device. It’s time to share a little bit about myself. I’ve asked you guys on social media to come up with some questions, and you did! I’ve also added some of my own that you may or may not find interesting. Hopefully you do! These answers are 100% truth. If you want to know anything more, just ask!
What’s your name? Christopher McCune
What do you like to be called? Chris. Or even more preferably, McCune. I know we’re friends if you call me by my last name. And if we are engaged in sport/fitness, saying Chris will get you no response.
How old are you? 31
Where do you live? Lenoir City, Tennessee. It’s a smallish town just outside of Knoxville.
Married? Kids? I’ve been married for going on six years. No little McCunes running around.
You can’t tell, but I’m 6’2″ and Lisa is 5’2″. Makes for some interesting photos when we are standing!
What got you into CrossFit? My friends opened a box! We all went to or worked at the same gym. Those that opened the box were already into CrossFit and I learned about it by association. I was already wanting to try it, so when they opened CrossFit 865, it was an easy choice.
Is Fran your least favorite WOD? Maybe! 14.5 is my least favorite ever. It was more Fran teaching me that I had so much to learn and grow in my fitness journey. Fran was still awful!
What’s your least favorite CF movement? Thrusters. Hate them. I’m so bad at them and generally weak in my upper body. Maybe that’s where the disdain for 14.5, and Fran, comes from?
What’s your favorite CF movement? Deadlifts!
Does your wife CrossFit? She does! We WOD together most days. She got her first pull-up a few weeks ago after working on that for a while.
Would you rather fight 20 duck-sized horses or one horse-sized duck? Ducks are mean! All people want to do is just toss them bread! Come on ducks, chill! I think I’d opt for the 20 duck-sized horses. …Can I pick neither?
What’s your day job? I am an engineer. A dorky, spreadsheet loving engineer. I have spreadsheets for everything. I have spreadsheets for my spreadsheets.
What’s your diet like? Paleo-ish. I try to eat clean. I know I need to eat cleaner and I try to a little each week. My wife is a dietician so that helps. My body let’s me know when I put bad things in it. I do eat whole grains, nuts, legumes, dairy and such and I’m not looking to cut those out anytime soon. Just the junk.
What’s the worst thing you’ve ever eaten? My Mom makes good food, but one time she made this meal with mayonnaise and imitation crab meat… It was terrible. Even my Dad passed on eating it and he eats anything!
How much ice cream makes Chris happy? I like ice cream but it isn’t a huge thing with me. I’m more a cake/cookies kind of guy. Especially cookies. But I do love me ice cream with some Reese’s PB Cups in it! Or my favorite, banana pudding ice cream. If you’re gonna give me dessert, make it my Mom’s red velvet cake please (my favorite thing to eat, period!).
Favorite book? My all time favorite book is Watership Down. It’s a young adult book about the secret world of rabbits on a farm. Yes, it is awesome. I also love Atlas Shrugged.
Hate burpees? Not really, I’m cool with burpees. Fine with wall balls too. I just really don’t like thrusters. There are other movements that suck for me but a lot of that is just the newness of them; I barely have a beginners grasp of OHS and snatches.
What has motivated you to continue to work out, stay in shape and keep your weight down? I love to workout! I feel lacking when I go for multiple days without it. Not in an obsessed way, I just truly enjoy staying fit and challenging myself. I want to enjoy life for a long time so staying healthy is a high priority. Plus moving weight around is an awesome stress reliever!
Did you play any sports growing up? I did indeed. I swam competitively from kindergarten through high school. I also ran track and threw discus. I did a brief stint with water polo in college (University of Tennessee, Go Vols!!) and I played ultimate frisbee. I play golf when time allows nowadays and I’m pretty decent at flip cup and beer pong.
Give us one crazy random fact. Ok. I never learned how to ride a bicycle. I still have never ridden a bike.
What makes you so tall and have a great beard? I used to work at a nuclear power plant. I’m chalking it up to those gnarly gamma rays.
Thanks everyone for the fantastic questions! I’ll be adding this to my ‘About Me’ section. Feel free to ask more at any time! And now, it’s been a pleasure to make your acquaintance! =)
