Happy 2015! How many weeks/months will it take to fully drop the 14 and correctly write the 15? For me, it’ll take a while. Since 2015 is here, now is a good time to discuss results from my survey that y’all took a couple weeks ago and the impacts to blogging in the new year, as well as maybe hit up my goals/resolutions for the year.
First, thank you all SO MUCH for taking the time to answer this 10 question survey! You all gave me useful feedback, as well as both compliments and constructive criticism in the comments, all of which I paid attention to and appreciated.
Let’s hit on a few of the questions.
Question 3 – How are you primarily notified of new blog posts?
The lead answer was Facebook. So, thanks for following along on my Facebook page! Now, I do have a request to make of you which will benefit both of us.
Make sure that you have at least one of these options checked under where you Liked my page. You probably have me showing up in your News Feed already, which is good. A way to take that even further is to Get Notifications of when I post to Facebook.
If you turn on the Notifications, you’ll get an alert every time my Facebook page has a new post, whether it be a new blog post, Instagram photo, or question of the day. Anything. Sure, that might get annoying so I understand not wanting to do that, but that way you’ll never miss a post!
One last thing about Facebook… the way Facebook shows my blog posts to people is a formula that involves reader interaction. If you Like, Comment, and/or Share a post, then there is a greater chance that others will see it. Even if you already like my page, you might not see me in your News Feed. Horrible, huh? So just know that if you hit Like on a post, it provides the opportunity for more people to read something you enjoyed… and I would be most grateful!
Question 6 – Please rank your favorite types of blog posts.
Y’all definitely enjoy workout recaps the most! And that’s good, because I enjoy writing those! A couple people commented that they would like to see a page of my current PRs on benchmarks and lifts; I’ll get that created soon. You can rest assured recaps will continue in the new year!
Close behind were the personal stories. Again, good, I like telling stories and not solely focusing on CrossFit all the time. Believe it or not, I do like to talk about other things! =)
One thing that stood out was the type ranked last… product reviews, and this was by a long shot. Ok, I hear you. Going forward, I will make sure I limit the products I review in posts to ones that are specifically to my blog. I’ve tried to do that already, but will focus that effort. I’ll also try and incorporate reviews more organically into other posts so you don’t have to read hundreds of words on one particular product.
Question 7 – What additions to ifailedfran would you be interested in?
For starters, I should’ve had a neutral choice in addition to the yes and no. Multiple people commented on that. My bad.
This surprised me! Almost 9 out of 10 responders wanted to hear about my food and nutritional habits. Done! I will absolutely talk about the food I shove in my face and how I try and eat optimally while working your standard 8-5+ desk job.
Also, you guys are interested in “a day in the life” posts. I guess I have shied away from these because, honestly, I don’t find my typical days to be very interesting! But maybe I’m just a poor judge of that. I’ll share.
Question 10 – Do you have any other comments about how I can improve ifailedfran?
Gonna hit this question bulleted list style!
- Post more often
- Share more stories from fellow CrossFitters
- Invite some guests to post
- Be funny
- Post more frequently
- Food/nutrition posts
- Other ways I stay active outside of CF
- Seriously Chris, update your blog more often!
- No posts with just a bunch of affiliate links
- PR page
- Day in the life
- Post more often
Right. Gotcha. Post more often! Well… I will try! Life does have a funny way of getting in the way of hobbies like this blog, but I will do my best to always post once a week and strive for twice a week.
Many of you gave supporting comments like you love the blog, keep it up, etc. Thank you. Your words meant a lot!
Now that we got through the survey results… it’s on to goals and resolutions for this blog and for myself. BUT… in the spirit of posting more often, I’m going to cheat and save those for my next post. =) But I promise to have it to you soon!
In the meantime, get on Instagram (follow me if you aren’t) and search the hashtag #deadliftfacechallenge. Ummm… hilarious!! Take a moment to laugh and if you upload one of your own, tag me (@ifailedfran) so I can see! This was my submittal, not quite a deadlift but I thought it was pretty good.
Happy New Year, everybody. Thanks for all your support this year as I stumbled through this ‘create a blog’ thing, thanks for your friendship, and thanks for sticking around for another year of it!
